Expect
the 2005 Clovis West football roster
to be
physical, dominating
the line of scrimmage and pounding the ground game. Ross
Wood, Max Taylor and Andre Tolmachoff all return to
the offensive line, along with running back Kyle Duffy.
This unit was responsible for Duffy's almost 2,000 yards
rushing in 2004 and is expected to only get better this year.
The experience up front will be crucial in getting the Golden Eagles
football team through the early part of the season while the younger
players get some game-time experience. Wide receiver Korey
Gerdts is the only other offensive starter who played
significant time last year.
Junior Brett Springer and sophomore Beau Sweeney will compete for the
starting quarterback position. While they lack varsity
experience, both players were starters of their respective teams last
year. Springer was the starting quarterback for the junior
varsity and Sweeney started for the Clovis West freshman football team.
Three starters also return along the Golden Eagles' defensive line:
Adam Flores, Tony Lopez, and two-time all-state defensive end
Chris Lewis. Lewis was already being recruited by a number of
major colleges prior to the 2005 season and is expected to also get
some playing time at running back.
