The
2005 Clovis West football team lost unexpectedly in the Central Section
Division 1 quarterfinals, ending their chances at defending last year's
championship. Fellow Tri-River Athletic Conference team Madera
High School (#6 seed) was able to ride its three-headed running attack
and pressure defense to a 20-10 victory over the third-seeded Golden
Eagles. Chris Jackson gained 115 yards on 12 carries, Anthony
Queen had 9 carries for 69, and Julio Mora added another 36 yards on 10
carries.
Despite junior running back Kyle Duffy's 34 carries for 204 yards,
Clovis West were only able to put 10 points on the scoreboard. 7
of those points came on Duffy's 85-yard touchdown run in the first
quarter. The Golden Eagles still had a 10-6 lead in the third
quarter, but were unable to hang on for the victory.
