Although
disappointed with their 34-0 semifinal loss to Bakersfield in
2005's Central Section Division 1 playoffs, Clovis High can at least
take some consolation in knowing that they outlasted the other 3 Clovis
Unified high schools. The Cougars relied their stifling defense
in a 23-21 quarterfinal upset of top-seeded Clovis East, stuffing the
Timberwolves' star running back R.J. Bell at the goal line on a
possible game tying 2-point conversion with only seconds left in the
game.
The 2005 football season began with high expectations, as the Cougars
were ranked 35th in the California rankings by Cal-Hi Sports. In the
Northern California region, Clovis High was rated 12th by the same
ranking service.
2005 Clovis High Football
Roster
- The talented linebacker corps of defensive team leader Geoff Warner,
Chase Morello and Nick Palomino will put some big hits on the Cougars'
2005 opponents. The defensive line is also expected to be solid
with the return of seniors Jon Prock and Zack Clutts, who also put in
double-duty on the offensive line.
The offense is more of a question mark, with Brett Behlen and Ronny
Torres battling for the starting quarterback position. If the
Cougars can find a quarterback to get them the ball, wide receivers
Jordan Friend and Matt Lindsey are capable of making some game-breaking
plays.
