The 2005
season ended in disappointment for the top-seeded Clovis East football
team when they were upset 23-21 in the Central Section Division 1
playoffs by #8 seed Clovis High.
The
Timberwolves had defeated Clovis High 24-9 during the regular season,
but were unable to convert the crucial 2-point conversion with only
seconds left on the clock.
The Timberwolves had high hopes for this year's squad, which was
expected to dominate the running game. Clovis East began the
season ranked 5th in California in the preseason state poll, but lost
its 2 standout offensive players to injury late in the 2005 season.
All-American running back Tracy Slocum suffered a fractured fibula and
wide receiver Andrew Pancotti injured his shoulder, requiring surgery.
2005 Clovis East Football Roster - The
Timberwolves began the 2005 season with a mix of stars and inexperience
on offense. Running back Tracy Slocum and wide receiver
Andrew Pancotti were expected to make plays while the quarterback
tandem of Eric Roberts and James Tate gained experience. A
solid defense and above-average special teams rounded out the 2005
Clovis East roster.
2005 Clovis East Football Schedule - This year's football schedule
included tough road games against West High in Bakersfield, California
and Midland Lee in Texas, along with a home tilt with East Anchorage,
Alaska. Despite this brutal slate of games, Clovis East
almost survived the Tri-River Athletic Conference regular season
unscathed. A 21-20 loss to Edison on October 7th was the lone
loss until the Central Section Division 1 quarterfinals.
