The
2005 Buchanan High football team had another tough year, going 5-6
after a 5-7 2004 season. There were several signs of
improvement, including 2 TRAC wins after going winless in conference
play last year. One of those league wins was a 15-14 victory
over defending Central Section Division 1 champion Clovis West.
The season ended with a 16-28 first-round playoff loss at
Liberty.
The lack of team success did not diminsh the college interest in
Buchanan's star defensive players. Defensive end will be
playing for Pat Hill's Fresno State football team next year.
Nose guard Justin Prueitt will continue the Valley tradition a
little farther away with former Bulldog Jeff Tedford at Cal.
Prueitt is also ranked as the 71st best California college
prospect by
rivals.com.
Offensive lineman Preston Doris has attracted attention with his
academic and athletic abilities. Navy, Army and several Ivy
League colleges have been active in recruiting Doris.
2005 Buchanan High
Football
Roster -
The 2005 Buchanan Bears offense will be quite talented, but not
experienced. Last year's quarterback, Mike Montero, is now at Cal
Poly, leaving seniors
Gino Simoni and Darin Vogt to compete for the starting position, along with last
year's junior varsity quarterback Trevor Smith. Offsetting the
inexperience on offense is a star-studded and very deep defense.
In addition to the college-bound players mentioned above, strong
safety Jeremy Hendrick and linebacker Derek Marten have also received
attention from college recruiters.
2005
Buchanan High Football Schedule - The inexperienced Buchanan football team does not get a chance to
take any baby steps, opening the 2005 season with a game against Sanger
at Tom Flores Stadium on September 9th. It doesn't let up from
there, with games against non-conference opponents Bakersfield, Edison
and North Bakersfield.
The
Bears finish out the 2005 season with all 3 of the other Clovis schools
in consecutive weeks before getting a bit of a breather with Central
High in the season finale.
